Should celebrities be held legally responsible for the impact of their social media posts on their followers?
Celebrities have a huge impact on their following, and social media’s impact has expanded substantially over time. Others disagree with the notion that celebrities should be held criminally liable for the effects of their social media posts on their fans. Celebrities should, in my view, be held somewhat but not fully accountable.
Celebrities have a big influence on their followers, and their tweets can affect how their followers behave. For instance, fans of celebrities may be more prone to adopt certain behaviours if they endorse a certain brand or way of life. The celebrity should be held accountable for any injury or illegal action caused by their post.
On the other hand, it might be difficult to hold famous people fully accountable for the effects of their social media posts. It might be challenging to determine whether a celebrity’s post resulted in wrongdoing or unlawful activities, or whether their fans were accountable for them. Additionally, celebrities have a constitutional right to free speech, so restricting their capacity to do so might violate those rights.
There should be more education and awareness efforts on ethical social media use rather than holding celebrities solely accountable for the effects of their social media posts. Celebrities can also utilize their platforms to spread uplifting ideas and actions that will have a good impact on their audience.
