PTE and IELTS Scores Comparison: PTE and IELTS are well-known English proficiency exams. Candidates have the option of taking mock tests for both, whatever they prefer. PTE tests have more scope to achieve a higher score and IELTS on the other hand is more standardized in its marking scheme and the PTE speaking test is graded by an algorithm

English proficiency test scores are mandatory in most colleges and universities, which include universities in Canada, the UK, the USA, Australia, and New Zealand etc.

To save students time and resources, test score users such as universities and government bodies have come up with comparative score charts and these charts help to convert PTE to IELTS scores. PTE and IELTS both are administered in different ways.

Candidates can choose between a computer-based or paper-based test, it’s totally their choice. IELTS is conducted on paper and PTE is totally computer-based. Its better to know which test would be better PTE or IELTS. Candidates who are not able to use computers can go for IELTS.

IELTS general training is preferred by applicants for immigration purposes mostly. Candidates taking the PTE exam talk into a microphone and if we talk about IELTS, in this candidates demonstrate speaking skills in front of an examiner. The reading and writing sections of the IELTS exam are marked physically by an examiner and the IELTS exam is about 3.11 hours.

If we talk about PTE it takes about 2.50 hours. In PTE most questions are integrated. In IELTS, each section is assessed separately. IELTS assesses English in real-life situations. IELTS supports successful futures.

IELTS invests heavily in the continued development of its test and the IELTS takes a multi-layered approach to test security. IELTS partners have shown a light on the importance of educational institutions and organizations setting the right English language scores.

IELTS results are reported on a 9-band scale and they are designed to be simple and easy to understand. IELTS reports as band scores on a scale from 1 to 9. Convert IELTS overall band score to PTE-A score.

IELTS 5 5.5 6 6.5 7 7.5 8 8.5
PTE-A 40.8 45.4 51.6 58.5 66.3 74.6 82.3 88.1

How organization use the 2021 IELTS vs PTE score equivalencies:

IELTS 7.0 (no sub-band less than 7.0)

Your applicants must meet your English language requirements, your PTE-A equivalent score should be a minimum PTE-A overall score of 66, and a minimum of 66 in listening. If we talk about reading you should get 67 in reading, 65 in speaking and 82 in writing you have to ensure it.

IELTS 6.5 (no sub-band less than 6.0)

You have to ensure your applicants meet your English language requirements. For this, your PTE-A equivalent score should be a minimum PTE-A overall score of 58, and a minimum of 48 in listening; 53 in reading; 46 in speaking; and 62 in writing.

Different universities may prefer either PTE or IELTS. It was decided by test organizations to accept a converted score to help students who have invested considerable time and resources.

Since the format and grading methods of the two exams differ in testing the same proficiency, it would be in the interest of students to accept converted PTE to IELTS scores. PTE to IELTS conversion is accepted by many universities and this is applicable for candidates who took the PTE test but were unable to take the IELTS test. By using the global scale of English PTE scores are calculated.
