Should parents be held legally responsible for their children’s online activities?
Children are utilizing the internet at a younger and younger age, and it has become an essential part of our life. There are continuous discussions regarding whether or not parents should be held legally accountable for their children’s online behaviour as a result.
I believe that while parents should be involved in guiding and supervising their children’s internet behaviour, it is impractical to hold them solely accountable for it.
On the one hand, parents have a duty to safeguard their kids and make sure they’re safe. This entails keeping an eye on their online behaviour and educating children about the dangers the internet may present.
Parents can establish limitations on how much time their kids spend online by installing parental controls. Parents should be held partially responsible if their children use the internet to commit crimes or hurt others.
However, it can be difficult to hold parents totally accountable for their children’s internet behaviour. Due to the size of the internet, it is hard for parents to keep an eye on every online activity that their children engage in.
Parents find it challenging to regulate their children’s behaviour because they may access the internet from a variety of devices, including smartphones and tablets.
There should be more emphasis on education and awareness efforts rather than solely making parents accountable for their children’s online behaviour. Parents need to be informed about the internet’s possible dangers and how to keep their kids safe there.
Additionally, responsible internet use and the potential repercussions of participating in dangerous or illegal actions online should be emphasized to children.
